The Creative Commons Principles:


Privacy Policies, data collection, and use policies should be "human readable," comprehensive, and easy to locate

Only the minimum amount of your information that is reasonably necessary to provide you with CC services should be collected and maintained

Information you provide to CC through their websites should not be used for marketing or advertising purposes

Unless restricted or prohibited by law, information you provide CC should not be shared to any 3rd person party without notifying you first


Some Key Points About Creative Commons Privacy Policy...

Creative commons will only use your personal information in case of:

They may disclose information to their contractors and/or service providers "in order to maintain, enhance, or add to the functionality of the websites or the OpenID service."

Well, what do they do with the personal information collected?

Creative commons uses personal information to your benefit. They will obviously use it to set up your personal CC license, send you emails/newsletters about upcoming important events that could affect you. If you make a donation they will use your personal information for paypal, or if you purchase a CC t-shirt or other merchandise they must use your information to get it to you. And lastly, they will use it if you set up a ccNet Account in order to maintain your account and provide you with the features standard account owners have.
